Pardalotes are actually a family (of four species) of small, brightly coloured birds with short tails, strong legs, and stubby blunt beaks, native to Australia and Tasmania.
They spend most of their time high in the outer foliage of trees, feeding on insects and spiders. They generally live in pairs in small tunnels or in small family groups but occasionally come together into flocks after breeding.
