Possums, not to be confused with the Opossums of the Americas, are nocturnal marsupials that have adapted well to urban enivornments.
In Queensland there are two more commonly found species of Possum:
The Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) is an inventive folivore (herbivore that specializes in eating leaves) and determined forager, but has been known to eat small mammals on occasion. These marsupials can live up to 12 years.
The Common Ringtail Possum (Pseudocheirus peregrinus), is the other relatively abundant possum in Queensland. With a red/ginger coat, these marsupials are slightly smaller to it's more common counterpart, but also feed on a wide variety of plants including the foliage, flowers and fruits of shrubs.
